Il apprend \u00e0 peindre en autodidacte. En fait, il ne fr\u00e9quente ni l’\u00e9cole ni l’acad\u00e9mie des beaux-arts, pr\u00e9f\u00e9rant visiter les mus\u00e9es et visiter fr\u00e9quemment les \u00e9glises. Jusqu’en 1914 environ, il peint objectivement, \u00e0 savoir des paysages, des personnages et des natures mortes. Par la suite, ses compositions deviennent peu \u00e0 peu plus abstraites ; Il les appelle des \u00ab\u00a0images fictives\u00a0\u00bb. Sa premi\u00e8re exposition personnelle a lieu en 1921. Dans les ann\u00e9es 1920 et 1930, il peint des paysages fantastiques qui se rapprochent de la peinture m\u00e9taphysique.<\/p>\n

L’artiste s’est rendu \u00e0 Paris \u00e0 l’\u00e2ge de 26 ans. L\u00e0, Magnelli a rencontr\u00e9 Pablo Picasso et Fernand L\u00e9ger, entre autres. Il r\u00e9alise un championnat tr\u00e8s acclam\u00e9. Alberto Magnelli a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la documenta de Kassel en 1955 et 1959.<\/p>\n

De 1931 \u00e0 1934, il commence la s\u00e9rie \u00ab\u00a0Stones\u00a0\u00bb, dans laquelle il montre des formes inspir\u00e9es des carri\u00e8res de marbre de Carrare (Italie). Ces pierres assembl\u00e9es semblent raconter une histoire, l’artiste soulignant le doux drap\u00e9 de la rigueur d’une architecture personnelle. \u00c0 partir de 1934, il ne peint que de mani\u00e8re abstraite. Parall\u00e8lement \u00e0 sa peinture, une \u0153uvre compos\u00e9e d’eaux-fortes et de lithographies est cr\u00e9\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Dans les ann\u00e9es 1940, il r\u00e9alise des collages \u00e0 l’aide d’\u00e9tain br\u00fbl\u00e9, de toile d’emballage et de peinture. Il peint des gouaches sur ardoises. Apr\u00e8s la guerre, Magnelli privil\u00e9gie les compositions dans lesquelles les formes g\u00e9om\u00e9triques, les ellipses et les lignes sont dessin\u00e9es \u00e0 plat sur des fonds monochromes. Alberto Magnelli, par de nombreux d\u00e9tours qui ont peu \u00e0 peu cr\u00e9\u00e9 son propre univers expressif, s’affirme dans l’abstraction g\u00e9om\u00e9trique, qui privil\u00e9gie l’ordre et la rigueur.<\/p>\n
