Scientific traineeship for Museum & Gallery (m/f/d)

The non-profit messmer foundation was established by the former entrepreneur Jürgen Messmer and has been the sponsor of the kunsthalle messmer in Riegel am Kaiserstuhl, around 15 km north of Freiburg im Breisgau, since 2009.

On approx. 900 square meters of exhibition space, the museum presents 3 – 5 temporary exhibitions on classical modern and contemporary art every year.

In addition to the kunsthalle messmer , the same building has also housed the GALERIE MESSMER since 2013. While the kunsthalle focuses on museum work, the gallery is primarily concerned with the art trade.

We are now offering a full-time scientific traineeship for one year with an option to extend it by another year with remuneration. Above all, you will support the exhibitions taking place in the Kunsthalle and gallery during this period, as well as day-to-day operations. As part of a small team, we offer you an insight into all areas of our work.

You will get to know these areas:

• Exhibition organization
• Press & public relations work
• Exhibition marketing
• Visitor support, front desk and museum store administration
• Event/opening planning
• Art education/guided tours
• Social media and newsletter
• Collection management
• Art sale

What you bring with you:

• A university degree with a focus on art history or equivalent.
• Experience in the art trade or museum sector (an advantage)
• You are communicative and show above-average commitment
• A structured, very careful way of working and the ability to work under pressure in stressful situations
• Good knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
• Foreign language skills in English and/or French
