Alain Clement

Alain Clément is a French painter of abstract compositions, as well as a sculptor and etcher. About his work he says: “I approach every picture with the hope of a colour, everything revolves around the appearance of that colour.” In his paintings, Alain Clément dispenses with the traditional perspective and smoothes the paint onto the canvas, so that the effect of his art emanates from the dominant color and the flat form. The formal design consists on the one hand of its strict, static geometry, on the other hand of curved, wide bands that glide over the surface; like moving forms in the course of time. The tall sculptures sometimes appear as flat fragments detached from his paintings and placed in the space architecturally. Alain Clément’s works are mostly exhibited in France and Germany. They can also be seen at the art fairs in Basel, Cologne, Madrid, Paris, Dubai and Seoul. The artist lives and works in Nîmes, France.
