Gerard Grimm

Gerd Grimm is a German graphic artist and fashion illustrator who is best known for his fashion drawings.

born 1911 in Karlsruhe, died 1998 in Freiburg
1929-1931 attended the Badische Landeskunstschule, Karlsruhe
1931-1932 Nuremberg School of Applied Arts
from 1932 master student at the United State Schools for Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin
1936-1939 works temporarily in France and England
1940-1941 draft for military service
1946 marriage to the fashion illustrator Hildegarde van Gülick. Receives advertising and illustration commissions
1950-1951 longer stay in New York. Illustrations for New York journals
1951 settles down in Freiburg on his return
50’s fashion illustration. Book covers for the Fischer Verlag and for Bürger’s paperbacks
1959-1982 Concept and illustration of the advertising campaign for the Reval cigarette brand
In 1961 the first of numerous Faller calendars was created. The motifs are mostly young women, who gain great popularity as “Grimm’s girls”.
1972 last major series of fashion drawings on the subject of ski clothing
after 1970 focuses more and more on depicting young models in fashionable but everyday clothes. The drawings are used for the Reval campaign and for the Faller calendars
