Roland Helmer is one of the leading representatives of concrete art. He liberated painting from narrative content and made the artistic medium of color and form the subject itself. Since the beginning of the 1960s, he has concentrated in his work on the interactions of colour, line and surface, creating a three-dimensional effect, sometimes also through a relief-like design. The reduction of the pictorial means to just a few bright colors and the symmetrical arrangement of block stripes are typical of Helmer’s late work.
