A jubilee exhibition for the fifth anniversary of the Kunsthalle
04/05/2014 – 09/14/2014
The fantastic pictorial worlds of two great Austrian artists for the first time in a large double show
Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) and Ernst Fuchs (born 1930) are considered to be the best-known personalities of Austrian post-war art. Starting in April, the messmer art gallery will be devoting an unprecedented double retrospective to the two Viennese artists, who were long-time companions.
The exhibition is being created in cooperation with the fox collector and gallery owner Dr. Cornelia Mensdorff-Pouilly, who was the artist’s muse and model for many years, and in coordination with the Hundertwasser non-profit private foundation, presents numerous Hundertwasser loans from private collections.
Due to his very own formal language, Hundertwasser is one of the greatest, world-famous artists. Ernst Fuchs founded the school of Fantastic Realism and was closely connected to Salvador Dalì with his surrealistic pictorial worlds.
Works from all creative periods of Hundertwasser and Ernst Fuchs can be seen in the exhibition. In this way, the double retrospective illustrates the impressive life’s work of two great artists who were long-time companions.
